Research Experience redesign
The problem
A confusing structure that includes multiple titles, complicated navigation
Web view in a native app - doesn’t utilise platform UI and transitions
Performance issue: long loading time
The challenge
We want to present the user with a researching experience that has the full capabilities of the web feature while combining native performance and the best user experience.
Our goals
Increase users that perform search out of total active and searches per user
Increase users conversion from viewer to subscriber
Create an easy research experience
The Supersearch is another excellent feature to discover more about your family history and it includes 9,732,825,498 historical records from all over the world.
Users can use the basic search form or the advanced collection section.
Quantitative research
The first thing we wanted to do was to understand what causes the users to struggle within the interface, so we did user testing, and these are the users pain points:
Users struggle to go back to “search all records” mode.
Clear their collection selection and browse through different collection
“Clear” button not accessible enough, user’s opted to go to the app home screen and open research again to clear form
The solution
Basic search form
We decided to separate the flow into the two worlds - basic form / Advanced and the Collections.
The user can decide and move easily between the two.
New Advanced toggle button, easy to switch
Advanced and specific research by collection
All categories open by default
New search bar for search in all collections
Sub-category and records
After choosing the category, the user can navigate between the sub-categories,
and see all related records list.
